Lotte to Host ‘11th Super Blue Marathon’

■ ‘Super Blue Marathon’ to be held on the 9th of next month, with 8,000 people running together, both disabled and non-disabled
■ Held annually since its first 개최 in 2015, with cumulative participants reaching approximately 80,000

Lotte will host the ‘11th Super Blue Marathon’ on the 9th of next month at Peace Plaza in Peace Park, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The Super Blue Marathon is Lotte’s representative social contribution activity where people with and without disabilities run together and interact while wearing blue shoelaces, symbolizing the hope and independence of the disabled. Registration is open to the first 8,000 participants until the 10th, and applications can be made via the official Super Blue Marathon website.
The event will be operated with four courses: the Super Blue Walk (1.6km), in which disabled and non-disabled participants compete together; the Super Blue 5km; and 5km and 10km courses for non-disabled participants. The participation fee is 30,000 won for non-disabled participants, while individuals with disabilities can participate for free with up to four guests, including themselves.
Since 2013, Lotte has been conducting the "Blue Campaign" in partnership with Special Olympics Korea, a non-profit organization that supports sports activities for people with developmental disabilities, to promote proper language use and improve public awareness regarding people with disabilities. "Blue" stands for "Beautiful Language Use will Echo," conveying the meaning that "beautiful words create resonance." Expanding the purpose of the Blue Campaign into activities where people with and without disabilities participate together, Lotte has been hosting the Super Blue Marathon annually since 2015, with cumulative participants reaching approximately 80,000.
Lotte affiliates are also stepping up to cheer on the participants. Lotte World's representative characters, Lotty and Lorry, will perform, while Lotte Well Food and Lotte Chilsung Beverage will provide snacks and beverages. Lotte Chemical will operate a recycling booth, and Canon Korea will run a photo zone event. In addition, a performance by the "SOK Ensemble," composed of musicians with developmental disabilities, will be arranged. Prior to the event, a pre-event program called the "Super Blue Running Class" is operated, allowing participants to train and interact together.
In particular, considering that October 9, the date of the event, falls on Hangeul Day this year, the main message has been set as "Let's use proper language for people with disabilities." The event plans to promote correct language expressions related to disabilities and raise awareness about disability issues.
A Lotte official stated, "The Super Blue Marathon is meaningful in that people with and without disabilities walk and run together to understand each other's differences." The official added, "We hope that this year, coinciding with Hangeul Day, it will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the words and expressions we use in our daily lives and naturally spread a correct understanding of disabilities."
