LOTTE’s participation in a ‘Flower’ Bucket Relay to help flower farmers amid COVID-19 2020.04.10 페이스북 공유하기

On April 9, Kag-Gyu Hwang, CEO and Vice Chairman at LOTTE Corporation joined a relay campaign to help flower farmers affected by the COVID-19.

The campaign was initiated to support the flower farmhouses, who are suffering from sales decrease due to the cancellations of commencement ceremonies amid COVID-19 outbreak. Mr. Hwang became a participant of the relay under the recommendation from Dong-Jin Koh, CEO of Samsung Electronics.

Like the Ice Bucket Challenge, which was popular around the world in 2014, this relay is being carried out by supporting flower farmers instead of dumping a bucket of ice, pointing the next nominee to continue this campaign.

LOTTE delivered a gift to employees of its partner companies in charge of sanitation and disinfection at LOTTE World Tower in Jamsil, Seoul, along with a bouquet of flowers purchased at Namdaemun Flower Market.

“It is a great honor to take part in the campaign at this times of difficulty when flower farmers are in trouble due to the cancellations of various events because of the health crisis,” said Vice Chairman Mr. Hwang. “I am grateful to Mr. Koh of Samsung Electronics for recommending me.”

Vice Chairman said, “I am delighted to have given the opportunity to deliver flower bouquets and gifts of gratitude to employees of our partner companies who are facing difficulties from the recent drastic strengthening of the hygiene and disinfection system,” and added, “I hope many people will enjoy the pleasure of delivering their hearts with flowers.” He then said, “I wish the Republic of Korea will regain vitality just like a spring flower in full bloom.”

Mr. Hwang pointed to LG Group Vice Chairman Young-Soo Kwon and KOLON Group Vice Chairman Byung-Duk Ahn, as the next runner-up to the relay.

Meanwhile, LOTTE is actively seeking to help domestic farmers, who are suffering from a double whammy of plunging exports and slumping consumption amid the pandemic.

LOTTE Mart plans to cooperate with local governments and related organizations from late March to early June to help farmers in Korea’s agricultural, fishery and livestock products. It is expected to reach a total of 1,500 tons and 7 billion KRW.

In March, LOTTE held an event to promote consumption of flatfish and abalone to help the fishery industry. Also this month, LOTTE has purchased a total of 600 tons of goods for domestic farmers who are unable to ship and export fruits, vegetables and fisheries products, and is conducting an event to “save our farms.” As a first step, LOTTE Mart raised a 100 million KRW fund through a three-way collaboration with Chungju City and Chungbuk Horticultural Cooperative to purchase and sell about 300 tons of apples that were damaged during the typhoon season and difficult to ship due to sluggish consumption.
