A multiplex in a department store
In 1999, Lotte Cinema opened as a multiplex cinema in a department store. It has made great strides in attracting more than 10 million customers in just three years. It plans to take the plunge into the film business by going into production and distribution, with the goal of rising to the top of the film industry. At present, Lotte Cinema has a total of 206 screens in 26 leading cities across the nation. It plans to increase that number to more than 420 screens in over 40 cities by 2008.
